Philosophy and science.

"Science" has philosophical connotations when when we extrapolate a long ways beyond the data and then question our personal bias and role in the extrapolation. One of the hazards of thinking out of the box, I'd guess. The worse scenario is staying in the box, beating our heads against the sides.

Seems to me that as measurments got better Newton broke down, then Einstein broke down, and now quantum physics is breaking down. Not as explanations, but as complete explanations.

I truly believe there will be another testable system for the next generation which is only awaiting better measurements for the theoretical and then the experimental physicists to generate an answer which will keep 'em all happy for 50 years or so.

And then that will break down.
