Plasma Cosmology... *cough*

Seriously, look at the photos of the universe, and look at plasma physics and electrical engineering, E/M are scaleable physical functions and are effective over much longer ranges than gravity-only. We "see" the effects of electricity and magnetism all the time in space, we just don't "understand them as such," and usually divorce electricity out of the equation, despite the fact that it's been repeatedly shown that charged particles flow in space (solar wind, CME's, geomagnetic storms). And astrophysicists seem to forget that electricity and magnetism are joined at the hip. Where goes magnetism so goeth electricity, and vice versa. Alfven (father of plasma physics, or so they say) even made the admonition not to ignore electricity in relation to plasmas (terrerstrial or stellar) lest science be set back 50 years. Methinks it has.

Recall the definition of "current." According to wikipedia:

"Electric current is by definition the flow of electric charge."

"In solid conductive metal, with no external forces applied, there exists a random motion of free electrons created by the thermal energy that the electrons gain from the surrounding medium. When an atom loses a free electron, it acquires a net positive charge. The free electron can move amongst these positive ions, while the positive ions can only oscillate about their mean fixed positions. The free electron is therefore the charge carrier in a typical solid conductor."

"Every electric current produces a magnetic field. The magnetic field can be visualized as a pattern of circular field lines surrounding the wire."

So, okay, heady stuff; what does it all mean?

Well, to oversimplify:

Electric current is a flow of electric charge. In many substances this is done by free electrons. However, it can also be done by other charged particles / charged atoms (positive or negative). Every electric current produces a magnetic field. Current can be measured without breaking the circuit by detecting the magnetic field it creates.

Okay, so what did I just say. Basically, moving charged particles DEFINE an electric current. Electric currents produce magnetic fields and can be exposed simply by measuring the magnetic fields they create.

However, my main point is that we currently IGNORE the magnetic fields that are easily visible in the cosmos and are created in enegetic events (ELECTRICAL events; events involving a "flow of charged particles," the very definition of "current").

HAve I made my point sufficiently succinctly yet? We need to stop ignoring the magnetic fields created by energetic ELECTRICAL CURRENT events in the cosmos. We need to understand the basic physics behind them as being ELECTRICAL. It requires a rethink of what's going on out there.

Specifically, jets caused by objects like pulsars, quasars, black holes, radio galaxies, x-ray bursters all fit the very DEFINITION of "current" (electrical discharge). The fact that the discharges are filamented over LIGHTYEARS smacks of magnetic self-constriction of a current flow. If these were simply "jets" from a garden hose, their energy would dissipate in 3D and the "jets" would become "clouds." But that doesn't happen, does it? Why? Because these are charged particles flowing along magnetic field lines, constricted into filaments, and the filaments of moving (spiralling) charged particles are the DEFINITION of a current. not to mention the fact that they often if not always emit radiation consistent with synchrotron radiation (electrons spiralling through a magnetic field). This SHOULD be obviously apparent due to the fact that the formation span tens, even hundreds of lightyears (maybe even thousands or more), and these objects could not maintain "thermal" emission of radiation over that period of time and space.

Recognize current flow (moving charged particles) in space for what it is. Electricity. Look from that vantage point. Revolution begins.
