They were interviewed by the authorities, apparently to the authorities' satisfaction. If they had been held without charges, no doubt liberals would be screaming about their rights being violated. As for why they left, if you had been in the U.S. then, and a relative, however close or distant, of the guy who just took out part of New York and Washington, you might have had a sudden longing for your home turf, too.
