Voting should be as easy and convenient as possible

but we should be very, very careful not to indulge the backwards and irrational beliefs and customs of religious fanatics, whether they be Amish, Baptist, Native American or Muslim or other.

I would hold that a photo ID should not be necessary to vote because first it's a good thing that citizens vote and second there's no real evidence that voter fraud is occurring due to the absence of such a requirement, not because we must accomodate crazy, stupid religious beliefs that are harmful to not just the religious community in question but outsiders as well in the greater society.

To give an extreme example, there's a multi-nation outbreak of polio in West Africa today due directly to the sheer stupidity and paranoia of the Muslim community in Northen Nigeria, which refuses in large numbers to have their children vaccinated against polio. The Nigerian government and other African governments are doing no one any favors by "respecting" the religious beliefs of the Muslim idiots in question.

Religion and religious belief and practice is probably the single most harmful influence in the world today, and it must be strongly discouraged, not indulged.
