It's an attempt to do two things: protect well-worn voter fraud techniques, and delegitimize future election results. Not naming any party names, here.
For the record, I don't think voter requirements should be a Federal issue.
Most state voter ID requirements have a broad variety of acceptable IDs, not just pictures.
There is no such thing as a Constitutional "right" to vote. The Constitution and amendments clearly spell out specific things which cannot be used to prevent someone from voting. It does NOT say that there should be no limits at all.
There are enough ways to register and vote in most states, including by mail, that anyone with enough mental competency to be a voter should be able to accomplish this task once every two years. The "disenfranchisement" thing is a myth, used for political purposes.
There seem to be a remarkable number of photos of Amish people floating around for a group that doesn't like being photographed.
Self-employed Amish do not have to pay Social Security or Medicare taxes.

It's an artificial controversy, ginned up for political purposes.
