Do you use the word "[oil] interest" to mean asset?
If so, I do not think it exists except in your mind. I don't think that Americans own oil fields nor refineries nor pipelines in Iraq.
If by "interest" you mean "strong desire for" then sure, we do desire their oil. But to occupy their country in order to safeguard it would be piracy.
