re: Fervent believers
There are plenty of Muslim missionaries in places like Africa. The concept is called "da'wah," which means "invitation."
Like most Christian missionaries, Muslim missions often accompany their evangelism with good works for the local people, including health care, operating orphanages, education, and other such things.
Muslim missions have also been recruiting for jihad. I don't know how many, but I hope they are still in the minority.
The short answer to all these questions is that there is jihad, a holy war to spread Islam, going on in many nations as I write this. There are no crusades, i.e. a holy war intended specifically to spread Christianity.
