Keep in mind that when you're getting opinions from religious people and others, disapproval of this particular war does not automatically mean disapproval of war in general.
I can easily locate quite a few people who disapprove of this war that approved of the war in Afghanistan, and a hell of a lot more that disapproved of one or the other, but approved WWII.
There are true religious pacifists who live by their code. This does not imply cowardice--many in past wars enlisted in non-combat roles, including jobs that put them in as much personal danger as combat roles. Medics were a popular choice. I don't know how many cases like that there are in the current wars, but it would be even more dangerous now that we have enemies that wipe their butts with the Geneva Conventions and pretty much every informal convention of war. A red cross on your helmet just makes you an easier target.
Every soldier has to come to his or her own peace with their religion in their own way, and I suspect there are as many ways of doing this as there are soldiers.
If you are looking for logic in religion, good luck. If it's reasoned, it's not a religion any more, it's science.
On the other hand, I know some proud atheists that have their own silly irrational beliefs. The East-West Bookstore here caters to a lot of them.
