I've always contended that our country swung so far to the right recently that actual liberals rarely exist anymore. This war really has nothing to do with liberal and conservative in the classic sense of the words. Militarism and imperialism has been utilized by both sides equally throughout history. It's just that the right are wrapped around it right now because it brought them power. Outrage over the abuse of an ideaology doesn't put you into the camp of their polar opposite.
I have a personal quest to take on extremism no matter what label is attached to it. What makes that seem liberal right now is simply that the left struggled for so long to keep their heads above water and not be completely out of the picture by moving to the center that it was no longer easy to differentiate the Democrats from the Centrists.
What your post didn't do is expouse collectivism or some welfare state so I had no problem supporting it. It instead attacked irresponsibility and criminal behavior by heads of state. There was a time when statements exactly like yours could've come from conservative leaders, people that would put ethics and the rule of law ahead of personal power. I would hope there's a deep buried shame in the right these days and it's being expressed in this dying gasp of defensiveness. These are go for the throat types of people though and we can't let down the guard because they'll see any capitulation as a sign of weakness.
Keep up the rants.

Not a liberal. Reasonable has taken on that specter
