re: And the docking hatches??

When Orion meets Space Station 5, it won't dock; when Aries 1B arrives on the Moon, it won't dock; neither would the pods on Discovery1...
All those shots were made after 1964, when the Apollo CM-LM configurations were well known.

Besides, it's the same with Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica...Buck Rogers...All those spacecrafts systematically land on the mother ship like on an aircraft carrier.

But docking hatches solve so many problems: loss of much less air, much less volume needed!

Perhaps it's the mating aspect of docking that the film industry wants to avoid:-)
