For instance, screens and displays and CRT's were more advanced in the real 2001....The space shuttle has 5 computers instead of just one....HAL is perhaps too early but it will all depend on what we consider "intelligent"' Perhaps testing between a PC and a real person and not being able to make the difference between the 2 would be the moment when they look like HAL.
We have learned a lot about Jupiter long before 2001, thanks to Voyager and Galileo.
But somehow, I don't see a human going to Jupiter...Machines, yes, but not flesh and blood. Even in 100 years.
