Is to get the politics out of the issue.
Its a simple fact that thousands of human embryos are flushed down the drain every year as a 'waste product' of fertility treatments. To say that these cell clumps can't be donated by the genetic parents to stem cell research is absurd on so many different levels as to give me a headache.
Simple fact is that the point at which human life begins, up to a point (fetal viability), is a moral question contingent on Belief or Religion- not a question of medical or scientific fact. As such, as long as we are a secular free society, its up to the individuals to make informed choices about the issues.
Unfortunately, as with abortion, we have an ignorant religious sect trying to command all americans to live by their own unfounded religious superstitions.
Its a rampant problem in our country, and the world. Some people feel that the intensity or certaintly of belief tumphs reason or objectivity, and that it is right and necessary to force people to live and die by that belief regardless of their consent or absence of it.
