Though it's hard to discern your beef, really, after six years of Republican control that saw tax break after tax break. Didn't all those tax breaks satisfy you? You want more?
After decades of hearing "taxes are too high!!!!" as the centerpiece of Conservative rhetoric, over a period of time that saw the top tax rates drop from 70% to oscillating around 40% (before loopholes), I have to tell you that it's the least impressive plank in the RightWing platform. It's nothing but a kneejerk mantra with a heavy seasoning of greed. Knowing that Conservatives will never be satisfied until the tax rate hits zero, I take it with a serious grain of salt.
I think also that the fixation on government as the only possible center of power, and thus the only legitimate focus for the Founders' principled concern about concentration of power, is nonsense, and more self-serving nonsense at that. The nature of power in the world has changed, but the fundamental concern about the relationship of individuals to power is eternal. We've talked many times about the corrupting influence of money on government, so it takes a Herculean effort of denial to artificially compartmentalize the effects of financial power off from the effects of governmental power. We know all too well that in the modern world they've become two sides of the same coin.
In other words, Tom, whether or not you admit it to yourself, you're shilling for the oligarchs, and providing them rhetorical cover.
