The important fundamental research stems from ESCs, not from adult stem cells. And its that fundamental research that industry no longer indulges in, and Gov't is required to support.
I don't think you can back up the thesis that only embryonic stem cells are "important" fundamental research. And again, while I understand liberals think the planet wouldn't rotate without Federal money, plenty of cash is going into the field. There are at least eleven private stem cell research groups.
I have to disabuse this place of the notion that the private sector does no research about once a month, usually in the pharmaceutical field. Do I have to do this yet again?
This is about politics, period, not whether or not the research will or will not get done.
