It already does.
Washington DC controls more appropriations than all of the world's other governments combined...And still the beast grows.
It has its benefits: We have the luxury of sending multiple aircraft carriers all over the world...And it really only costs a tiny fraction of said appropriations.
It has its pitfalls: We are a target of every fool who thinks he actually can sieze control of a small part of Earth (Sadam, Chavez, Alamazinadjad, etc...)
