That episode was on tonight again. Think I saw it years ago.
It brought tears to my eyes, frankly. I think there was more behind them than the program, and the program triggered them. It reminded me of the country in which I was raised, the country I love, of what American power can do. Ol' Truman came through.
Personally, I just remember that there was a blockade, didn't know what it was all about except the badguys were trying to take over.
And along came Korea. I was 9 when that happened, but was reading the entire paper every day. I was alone on weekdays until 9:30 or 10:00 PM, and we lived in the country. The nearest neighbor was on the next road, about 1/2 mile away. That would be considered abuse now. I read everything I could get. I was proud of the US for Korea. And am.
I couldn't help but contrast that with what my country has become. The drift into Vietnam, the cancer of that immorality metasticizing into the immoralities of Iraq and Afghanistan, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.
My country went from profoundly proud to utter shame in 50 years. I did it in 50 minutes tonight.
