I am not sure why you equate the left with support of communism... I certainly have no love for communism. Communism is a GREAT idea, the only problem with it is that it cant work for human beings- it seems to be most applicable to some alien race.
Communism is a failed system among humans- over and over it has led to tyranny, mass murder, and dictatorship. It is not conducive to freedom or innovation- Castro has been a disaster for cuba, and I dont think we have even begun to see the tragedy that Chavez will bring to his country. I believe most on the left share this view.
Lableing those that disagree with you as commie apologists may make you feel good, and it may be simpler than looking at what they say- but it isnt really useful...
