There's a lot of truth in what you say, but the fact reamains, lawyers, politicians, public relations types and business executives are so intrinsically crooked that no candidate will believe they have received a contribution from a specific source unless they can read the signature at the bottom of the check. If you were a candidate and you received $20M in contributions would you believe a midnight phone call telling you "a million of that is from me"?
