A nice place for lunch
Don't know if RL recalls this, but during one of his field trips we visited a marble quarry in Colorado. The quarry is up on a ridge and there is a tunnel that enters the bottom of the quarry from the side of the hill. It was a hot day when we visited. A bunch of us gathered around the portal of that tunnel where a nice, cool breeze issued forth and enjoyed our lunch there.
Years ago I read about ancient structures in the deserts of Persia that were designed to direct morning winds into the ground and cool them, which would precipitate any mosture to be had. Can't remember what they were called, however.
