I have lived my life in academia.... There are right wingers and left wingers there....
Now, GENERALLY, the people I have met and known tend to be on the moderate left- you can take that however you want... the most ignorant people have tended to be on the right- such as morons suggesting we just nuke IRAQ into glass- several YEARS ago I knew ex Marines calling the Iraq war a disaster, and a waste of American lives- these were NOT 'Bleeding heart liberals'. These were guys that had 'been there done that'....
In academia I had right wing nuts and left wing nuts as teachers- I simply observed their bias and got over it... In the hard sciences I cannot think of a SINGLE example of a professor expressing his or her political views in class- I had one loony left wing loon of a 'teacher' for my final english requirement (she was a post doc) and I made her life hell on the subject of deconstructionism, but I had already been accepted to grad school so I really didnt give a damn-
I honestly do not remember a single incidence of political leanings entering the classroom in any of my hard science courses- Even in my history courses, I actually enjoyed the american history courses. I had one leftist nutcase as a teacher, but even at that age I was able to see her bias- I still just wrote the facts and her diverse students graded me- I got an 'A', even though I disagreed with her conclusions.
You seem to think academia 'reprograms' people- It really does not- the only 'reprogramming' comes from exposure to facts- and acceptance of them... give people some credit..
