Explanations

Let's see, the leftist contagion has infected a majority of journalists, writers, intellectuals, artists, actors, all of Hollywood, about half the politicians, climate scientists, academics, publishing, and now...superhero cartoonists! Only military lifers, entrepreneurs and evangelical Christians seem to have any immunity to the plague, and we're starting to see exceptions there, too.

There are a lot more people who don't toe the leftist line other than the few stereotypes you list. As just one example, which category would you put Cuban exiles under?

I know you don't hold to the theory that this is a deliberate planned conspiracy, but you must have some explanation for how this meme has managed to entrench itself into so many separate and unconnected aspects of society, and how it has been able to flourish in the face of so many obvious and incontrovertible evidences of its internal contradictions.

Of course I have an explanation, and I've given it any number of times, and it's gone where most of my explanations go, wafting gently out into the digital ether unremarked, because if someone is utterly convinced that my initial premise is bullshit, everything else I say to support it is just white noise.

I'm not sure there's a point to it, but here it is again:

Basically, the Left owns the educational system in America, lock, stock and barrel. Particularly the higher educational system. There are exceptions in private schools, including those that have gone to the other extreme, but for the most part this is true.

This story mentions just one survey. I could come up with others. Here's one on journalism.

Now, look at the list you gave of vocations that seem to have a large number of left-leaners. For most of those categories, how many require that you come through a higher education in what would be normally a liberal arts school?

In an educational environment where peer pressure and authority lean left, it take a lot to come out the other end with beliefs that don't fit the mold. And if, after that, you are thrown into a career environment where the politics is still largely monolithic, most conservatives will either change, stifle themselves entirely, or simply become apolitical, and go along with the crowd.

In the article I linked, one Jonathan Knight declares that leftist academia has no effect on students. I'd like to see one of the studies he's referring to. I was in college, and so is my daughter. I know what the pressure is like, particularly in any field where politics tends to poke itself in naturally. Again, look at the list you gave.

A liberal who declares that the school environment is irrelevant just needs to answer one question: If I gave you a full scholarship to Bob Jones University, which has a pretty good academic standing, would you send your kid there? Thought so. Sit down.

School teachers and professors are themselves forged in an environment where to be conservative is a liability. However much a university prides itself on "diversity," their meaning of the word is people of many different backgrounds, skin colors, languages, and cultures, who all think the same way.

The fix is in: Isaac Newton would have trouble getting a job as a math teacher in a public school or college without the proper "certification," i.e. proof that he's been taught in a proper School of Education not just what to teach, but how and along what lines.

This is something that has developed to this degree mostly within the last generation or two. When Captain America was invented, it was a different world.
