In the ultimate ideal world of Gore and his ilk, assuming all he fears is true, we can save the world by controlling the mass of humanity and no harm will come from a 10% elite class living anyway they wish.
The 90% will be well fed, well entertained, relatively well educated and relatively healthy for 75-80 years.
The 10% will enjoy all the extras and live for about as long as they wish.
(as long as there is unrestricted upward mobility, what's not to like) :(
