To be able to withstand physical pain? Or to stoically withstand physical pain?
Sometimes, strong is stupid - or mean. You can be strong, but not flexible. Strong can be brittle.
Or is it emotional strength you are talking about? Men and women both endure the slings and arrows, each in their own way. Both are strong. Both infuriate the other, at times, with the expression (or anti-expression), of their strength.
For every sterotypical example I can think of, I also know exceptions.
I've known both genders to pass-out at the sight of blood, to panic when they shouldn't, to worry too much about the opinions of others, to believe that their way of doings things is the "right" way and to use their "strength" to try and change others.
Someone can be strong to hide weakness. Or they can give their strength away, or deny it, or they can exploit it. These are non-gender specific traits. Again, I know of examples of each of both genders. Men can be more romantic than women and women more calculating than men.
Basically, it's a great big gray area. Take it on a case-by-case basis. Hard to predict, sometimes, how strong men, or women, will be when they need to be, when it really counts.
We are all strong.
It's how we express it that counts.
