Palm/Treo is perilously close to becoming a dead end. They have a new Linux-based OS thats supposed to come out this year in a smartphone... For me, thats the real decision point. I'll live with inferior hardware if I can have a stable OS thats not Windoze.
If your phone can run pTunes or some other 3rd party software thats really good at playlists and plaback (some 3rdparties, for the palm, are even designed for Audio Books)- that combined with a really good for-the-PC sound-file 'mp3' editor (Magix is okay, but a little slow and buggy... there are some good freeware progs I hear) where you can break up the sound files and pakage them easily with naming conventions... then I bet you will have more luck than trying to use a 'dumb' mp3 player. and- one less gadget to port around on your trip.
