Average yearly temperature Global temperature has not risen above the 1998 temperature, so for last 8 years temperatures have lowered or remained nearly flat. This is an accepted fact, but you can't accept it. What is the point betting you if you can't accept that?
So, since the time you first wanted to bet me, you would have lost the bet- but you think you won the bet.
In 1998, I would expected higher temperature and during this time it has been lower than I expected. And I still expect temperature to rise and since the beginning 20th Century temperature have risen.
Now, if you smooth out the trends in last few decades, you can say that temperatures have risen, but considering that we are still in a 10 century long tread of warming period, and that today temperature are lower than some temperatures within this 10 century warming period, I expect that temperature will eventually reach these warmer temperatures. Or in other words, I'm not expecting us to enter an Ice Age in the near term.
We presently about .6 C above the temperatures required to be in a Ice Age, though a real measure of an Ice Age, is not so much average temperature but growth in glaciers and it's not clear to me if we lost .6 C in global temperature this would result in near term a measurable increase in glaciers.
Now if within next few decades we were to increase global temperature by say .2 C this would worry me less than if over same period we were lose .2 C.
Some scientist are predicting a lowering of temperature within the next couple of decades. I think it's possible they be could correct, but I don't have a lot of confidence in their predictions. Though if we are concerned with centuries in the future, the possibility of cooling is higher, when this extended to thousand[s] years of years it becomes almost probable [assuming human aren't at that point unable to change this].
