Current Events » in reply to I don't think it'sa that easy

There is much truth in what you say

but as you point out, no one can confidently predict the future, and unfortunately, we are all condemned to experience it, one way or another.

The scenario you outline cannot be ruled out, indeed, it is the currently accepted paradigm just as the Domino Theory once was; but neither is it inevitable. The question is, can our current policy prevent it? Will our current policy aggravate it when it does finally happen, and will our current policy even precipitate it? In my opinion, the worst thing we can do is continue in the static position we are now until random events blindside us. We have already lost the initiative, and as a consequence we are exposed and extremely vulnerable to the unexpected, or even just simple bad luck. We no longer have the ability to make things happen and unless we change the game soon, things are going to start happening to us.

Believe me, I have agonized over these decisions myself, and I can't guarantee my ideas about handling it are correct, or that my opponents are completely mistaken. But I am confident that if this stalemate continues indefinitely, sooner or later we will fail catastrophically.
