We don't scrimp on books either.

The proper attitude as you're forking over the American Express at Borders is "Thank God they want books!"

When the Harry Potters came out, we couldn't get away with buying just one for the whole family, not without risking having the house burned down. We've gotten as many as four books, although I try to spread it out a bit--one is the British version, for example, and once I coughed up for the special boxed edition.

When all the reading is done, our extra copies end up at our local public library, where there's usually a long waiting list for them, and the librarians are damn happy to see them.

If I could wear the same shirts I wore thirty years ago I'd be pretty damn proud of it myself. I don't know about other men, but I wear things until either they don't fit or they fall into pieces. Which reminds me, the soles of my sneakers are just about gone...
