Although I have no problem working for private business, or others doing so, or even starting a business of my own (although I've never felt a desire to do so); I do have strong moral reservations about employing others. I'm not saying people who employ others are evil, what I'm saying is I never could feel comfortable doing so myself, for moral reasons.
I've often wondered if I moved to a poor, small town (say in Mexico) and needed some work done around my place; I would have no problem hiring a workman to do the job as a contractor. I hire tradesmen now to work on my house and my car and my other stuff. But I would have strong reservations about hiring a permanent employee, such as a maid or gardner. I'm well aware that it would be greatly appreciated by the members of the community who could certainly use the steady employment, but I would feel very uncomfortable with having that much economic power over someone else's life.
That doesn't stop me from working for someone else, I don't expect a free ride and I figure I can always quit if I want; and if I can't it's my own fault for letting myself become that dependent on others. But I would never want to put someone else in that position and I certainly wouldn't want to benefit from it. Go figure.
Flame » in reply to I think "allow" pretty much makes your point.
Not only that...
