Space/Science » in reply to Correction--it's more like one and a half 8 cylinder modules

How much does one of those modules weigh?

It would be a tough job to haul it up the tether, or otherwise reel in the tether. You'd have to take the turbine out of service.

The integrated self-inflation device would maintain optimal inflation at all times, and the turbine in continuous operation, albeit with hydrogen. But it's not like people are at risk. It's unmanned and way far offshore. IMO anything that keeps the turbine operating continuously for long durations is a good thing. The Magenn site offers a 5-year warranty for their product. They say that these things can reasonably be expected to be in operation for 15-20 years. Some maintenance would be needed, but inflation pressure is one less worry.
