I’ll agree with that. The pain was the worst I have ever felt. It felt like my guts were being torn apart. The morphine instantly took that away. With the pain, I my whole body was tense. My wife said I had a death grip on the bed rails and my whole body was shaking. As soon as that morphine got into my system, the pain disappeared and my whole body relaxed. It was a wonderful feeling. I was so exhausted from fighting the pain, I fell into a deep sleep.
Once the pain was tolerable, the morphine had served its purpose and it was time to let it go. Its purpose was to stop my sever pain, not take me from reality. So I let it go, but I felt the temptation and the urge to keep using it. All I had to do was call the nurse. It wasn’t easy, but I told myself to let it go, I don’t need it anymore and left the nurse alone.
