Comparison

Let's see Tom. From what I remember Clinton didn't do things in office in support of a Unitary Executive ideology, didn't resort to an unprecedented amount of signing statements to circumvent the Constitution in regards to lawmaking, didn't have to have the Supreme Court decide the outcome of his election. He didn't go against the Geneva Convention and start torturing prisoners. He didn't get caught in lies regarding foreign policy.

Those few right-wingers had really no indication from his actions that he would take such action. I think it's pretty apparent that it's not just a small smattering of left-wingers now that cast a very wary eye on the intentions of Bush and even more Cheney.

I doubt he'd actually try to hold onto power past the election but not because he doesn't want it. I think what will prevent him is knowing he's so despised that he'd cause a violent revolution and be given a going away present like Mussolini. His only hope at retaining power is to focus American fear once again on some outside force and somehow convince the country he is capable of protecting us from it. I think he's used up that karma.
