How about a moratorium on political posts here at the Zone, say for about 30 days? The month of November would be OK by me, or if we need to taper off, how about December? Things are pretty slow during the holidays anyway, it's a good time to detox. We refrain from partisanship, and if one of us slips up or can't restrain himself, we all just politely refuse to respond.
Or perhaps we could try a compromise, no political posting except on Flame (those posts usually wind up Flameworthy anyway), and anything goes/no holds barred in that forum.
I'm not just interested in cutting down on conflict, I love conflict. I'm sure we could find plenty of other topics to disagree on. But I'd really like to know if we can actually find anything to talk about besides politics.
