My Dear Techenheimer

I'm well aware that a Zone with no politics might turn into a very bland and dull place, but a Zone of predominantly politics is just as insufferable. I come here for entertainment, and entertainment implies variety. I'm doing this not to stop political discussion, but to reduce the emphasis on it. Surely, you must know how much I enjoy it myself, and I appreciate the occasional opportunity to come here and beat up on you and TB. It just gets old after a while.

Think of it another way. I love science, particularly astronomy, and I welcome the opportunity to go to Space every now and then and get or share the news, or even have an occasional debate. But can you imagine hanging out in Space ALL the time? And its a lot more civil over there, too. 'Nuff said.

I can't help it if you have chosen to conflate monopolizing the conversation with a free speech issue, but all I can say is that politics (actually, not politics, but the political conflict which is now dividing the nation at every level) is work, not fun. And when the board stops being fun, people will leave, as many already have.

Is that what you want? A board of angry young men (and women) meeting every day to exchange blows like those black/white harlequin guys in that Star Trek episode, to the end of eternty? The college endless coffee shop debating society was fun in my twenties, but I haven't got time for that now, and neither do most of us. That kind of earnest zeal is only for those who haven't already heard it all before, over and over and over and....
