Missing the point: Why not a military base?
Why did we nuke two entirely civilian citie? They had virtually no military impact at all. If I had been in Truman's place I would have nuked a large naval base. Or perhaps even a large unpopulated area just to demonstrate what they were in for if they didn't surrender. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were deliberate attacks on civilian targets; something we take considerable pride that we try so hard to avoid now.
