re: I know now there were no witnesses...

You know ER, sci-fi, and fantasy is based on real life encounters.
Talk to ANY of the long time psychiatrists who interview the witnesses and have for DECADES, and you'll find that most witnesses are normal people with abnormal experiences.

What do you find so outrageous as magnetic anomalies stirring conscious events into the paranormal range? Look at the work of Michael Persinger for instance, who has used electric and magnetic stimulation on brains of volunteers that stir OBE's and alien encounters?
Why do you deny that this COULD happen?
Ley lines cause extra-magnetic events, for instance.

You see, I've been investigating this stuff and hundreds of cases for over 30 years now, and I know a lot of doctors and scientists (and yes, even neuropsychiatrists) who've interviewed the witnesses and followed their cases for years, if not decades. They'd interview you and make assumptions about your mental health with your "bullshit radar" conclusions.
You see sir, I have studied it and you have not.
I know witnesses of major cases and you do not.
And that where we differ, you with belief, and me with knowledge.

I don't have any conclusive answers, only more questions.
You don't learn by closing the door without paying attention to ALL the evidence.
