Flame » in reply to 30 states calling for a ban on refugees from Syria.

"How in the world can you do background checks on Syrians in a timely matter?" Ask the NSA.

It occurs to me that after having poured a trillion dollars or so into building what's supposed to be the world's most awesomest security apparatus, we really shouldn't have to worry about a measly 10,000 refugees making their way here in an orderly and controlled fashion.

Seriously, ask the NSA. They claim that collecting all the world's communications metadata would let them connect the dots of terrorism and identify the bad guys. Let's put that to the test. Most of the data can be connected to people via cellphone and landline business records (otherwise it's worthless). People can be connected to their identity using the vast databases of biometric and facial recognition data that's been collected by other surveillance agencies. This isn't like the mass stampede into Europe, there's going to be time to check the authenticity of passports and other documents. The poor bastards we're willing to take have already been marshaled into refugee camps and checked out multiple times already.

If after all this time and all this money there's any reason to worry about 10,000 refugees, our shiny expensive national security state is a sham.
