"Playing into the hands of Daesh" could be taken two ways.
If you look at the actual resettlement regulations, that one to two-year check is supposed to take place before the refugees enter the U.S. Anybody coming in now probably hasn't been seriously checked. And exactly how do you check the background of a Syrian refugee? How hard would the system be to defeat?
We know now that terrorists are smuggling themselves among the refugees. Like I posted elsewhere, they're bragging about it. Regardless of what the Czars of Political Correctness are spouting, this isn't an imaginary issue.
Some airbrushing from one of many sources that sneered at the "crazies" who thought Trojan Horse terrorists were a problem.
The terrorists are telling us the next target is Washington D.C.
"...every time we restrict our own freedoms in a fearful quest for security we reveal our lack of faith in our own principles."
Which, as Jody has sort of pointed out, makes it odd that liberals want to disarm millions of Americans every time a lunatic shoots some people. I don't see "the freedom of unrestricted immigration" enshrined any higher in the Bill of Rights than the freedom to keep and bear arms.
Sidebar 1: The greatest hero of the Democratic Party, Franklin Roosevelt, hauled an entire population of Americans into camps on suspicion of being potential saboteurs after a surprise attack on the U.S. Was he nuts?
Sidebar 2: Where did the Paris terrorists get their guns?
Sidebar 3: The Texas legislator didn't say anything about it being "so easy to buy guns in Texas." He talked about the ability for refugees under current laws to obtain drivers licenses and other documents that would permit them to buy guns in general. There was considerably more concern in his letter about the ID being used to gain access to aircraft.
