Nuclear thermochemical hydrogen coal liquefaction
There are a number of studies going on right now to use waste heat and from nuclear reactors and catalysts to produce hydrogen from water. This process is potentially much more efficient than electrolysis, for example. The hydrogen could then feed a coal liquefaction plant for transportation fuels. Otherwise the hydrogen feed would have to come from natural gas, another limited resource that is already being used to generate electricity. The nuclear waste heat idea would allow existing nuke plants to be used.
Hydrogen could also be used for inflatable wind turbines that reach more reliable high altitude winds.
