It's a complicated thing. The problem with politics and long-term projects is that it's difficult to maintain focus on anything. When I was working on Gravity Probe B, choffing up that Evil Government Money, the program was cancelled almost every year, and reinstated due to the lobbying of our head scientist.
Most of us here are space fans, and tend to home in on that, but it's a mistake to become a "single-issue" voter (I'm seeing a lot of this on the Republican side). Every candidate brings a broad spectrum of ideas, and it will be impossible to find one that agrees with everything you want.
