So far, so good.
First attempt was a simple upgrade. Didn't have a lot of hope for that since I had so much crap on my machine, but it's always worth a shot. I mentioned the result above.
Second attempt was a clean install, but my DVD-CD drive was failing, and I think it corrupted a file or two. Result was another mess. A new drive later, I'm doing okay so far, but still have a lot of applications to load. I've got my browser and e-mail settings back, though, which doesn't suck.
Next: Office 2003.
