Laptops

I'm pretty happy with my IBM Thinkpad. It's not as light and groovy as Apple or other slimlines, but it has horsepower I need. Two "bays" for various devices on either side. One has a DVD reader, the other an auxiliary battery.

If you shop carefully, you should be able to get XP loaded on a system without problems. I'm still not touching Vista, and wouldn't recommend it. Look at how long it took for me to decide XP was mature.

If you have the money, look into more "ruggedized" laptops, which aren't as fussy about being lugged around in less-than-civilized places.
