Hardly

There is a HUGE differnece between emotion and being able to rationalize and rank events as positive or negative relative to ones position.

The emotional are of no help at all in a crisis or problem. Why?

Because emotions are fundamentally selfish.

The person who is less emotional and more rational can help others because they are not paralyzed by fear, hate, sadness or anger. They don't lose the ability to tell good from evil or positive outcomes from negative outcomes - they simply have ceased to let the outside world control their minds and reactions. (aka emotion)

Yes, the lessening of the violent emotions is a very good thing and anyone who tells you otherwise is still reacting more animal-like than homosapien. Humanity is above the animal because it can think before reacting. Emotion is almost pure reaction with little thought.

Compassion is better than sympathy.
In the Middle East we see the howls of sympathy for the dead. Much like watching wolves howl when one of their pack dies.

Aversion is better than hatred.
The person who hates, lets the object of their hatred control them. Aversion of that one finds negative or destructive is far more useful and effective. Hate means you lose.

Love is better than lust.
Love is lasting and deeper. Lust is fleeting and shallow.

I could go on...but hopefully I've already made my point.
