You've stated half-truths

"The emotional are of no help at all in a crisis or problem. Why?

Because emotions are fundamentally selfish."

Tell that to the person who is trapped under something that cannot be lifted by a human and yet the human lifts it with literally superhuman effort. Those things do happen on occasion and it is not intellect. Emotion can supercharge the adrenals and give you physical power that would be impossible under normal circumstances.

Emotions are not selfish. People who have them may be selfish but that is not emotion, that is simply self-interest kicked up a notch. EVERY human is selfish to a degree. Show me someone who is not selfish and I will show you a potentially boring person.

A dictionary definition of emotion: "A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes; a feeling."

A different dictionary definition: "an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced, as distinguished from cognitive and volitional states of consciousness."

Note the use of the word "affective." If it were possible to have no or little emotion, one would be passive. Intellect is passive. Emotion drives the use of intellect; intellect limits the range of the emotion. Even typing this, I have "emotion" around the subject but the "intellect" expresses it. They are partners and if one of them gets out of balance, problems will arise, particularly in relationships.

Dictionary definitions of intellect: "the power or faculty of the mind by which one knows or understands, as distinguished from that by which one feels and that by which one wills; the understanding; the faculty of thinking and acquiring knowledge."

Without emotion, intellect is barren.
