Most far-left democrat types only travel in circles with other far-left democrats. This leads to a sort of provincial view of the United States and the world. "If the sky is blue here...it must be blue everywhere!"
Not everyone is a Democrat despite the media's assertion to the contrary. Everyone in the world "hated" Bush when Kerry was running too, and yet he still won.
It's an uncomfortable fact, but Republicans vote more than Democrats do. They earn more, are better educated and are not prone to BDS. Sure the vast unwashed masses are by default Democrats. They hate everybody and everything - and always, always - the rich. However getting them out of the bars and the hookah lounges, sobered up and into the voting booth when the time comes has always been a problem. Democrats and dependability don't mix. ;-) (yeah..so I'm just using a teensy bit of hyperbole here)
Fred Thompson just has to ride out the storms. I've heard Obama is hoping to do well enough to be the Hillary VP choice. That leaves a Hillary/Obama ticket versus a Thompson/Mccain ticket or A Thompson/Romney ticket. You can switch those around if the numbers go astray, but my ear is pretty close to the ground and I expect Thompson to be at the top of the ticket when the smoke clears.
Sure America may elect Hillary/Obama over what the GOP has to offer - but I seriously, seriously doubt it. Democrats have been shooting themselves in the feet with extremists and polarizing personalities for 8 years - and nothing has changed. One need only look at how completely incompetent and ineffective Pelosi's leadership has been to see how utterly inept the Democratic party has become.
I expect another four years of GOP Presidential leadership.
