Insurance and government intrusion are what's sent medical costs through the roof. Veterinarian medicine is on par with human medicine when it comes to sophistication and technology, yet the cost is far far lower. Put the paying of doctors back into the hands of people, instead of insurance companies, and you'll see the cost go back down to an affordable level.
