There's a lot of premises being thrown around carelessly. What actually defines an "extreme?" Or the "center" for that matter?
Some situations don't have a valid "center" position. Is there a "compromise" possible between someone who wants to rob a house and the person who owns the home? Be careful to examine these things down to their roots.
Have you noticed that the "center" seems to have been redefined in some areas as being the same place some people have already been for years? A place that used to be considered one of the endpoints? For each issue, check this kind of thing out. Has the other side actually moved at all to a more "reasonable" position, or is it just that the idea of "center" has been corrupted a bit? For example, are we really at a point where nationalized health care is considered the "moderate" position?
