In general I'm pretty pro-gun rights. The assault weapons ban was just dumb, and I certainly don't think guns or gun owners are inherently bad.
That being said, I'm dubious about encouraging guns on campus, particularly allowing concealed carry.
In that environment, you have a very dense population of immature, irresponsible youth who are prone to widespread alcohol abuse. If you want to advocate a bunch of students packing heat as the solution to these mass shootings, you need to also ask how many additional deaths you'll get from accidental shootings or disputes that escalate to gunplay. As someone who's spent most of his adult life around colleges, I've just seen too much stupid crap -- be it negligence, beligerence, or dumbass-edness -- to think that there wouldn't be a significant body count attached to widespread carrying of handguns on campuses. Heck, I would have been terrified if some of my own friends had their guns with them in their frat house.
If the probability of a shooter rampaging on campus were far higher, that'd be different. With the recent VT and NIU shootings I'd imagine the risk of death by random campus shooting is now higher than death by lighting strike on campus, but still far below the number of additional deaths you'd see from accidents, domestic violence, suicides, drunken brawls becoming drunken gunfights, etc.
