I can't think of any place where the government has succeeded in providing a product or service either more efficiently or more cheaply than the private sector. Usually, it's neither.
What are you going to point to as a shining example of low costs and brilliant success for the money spent? NASA? The DoD? Homeland Security? The education system?
I don't know anything about United Health Care as a company. But I do know you aren't going to get utopia from a health care system just because it's run for political gain instead of economic gain.
The "majority of your neighbors" are not dying and being made destitute. Most of America is happy with its medical care.
Bureaucracy IS "middle men," usually thousands of them, and if you think a Federal Health System will be any different you're dreaming.
There is no "30 percent slice." Heck, 95 million people covered by private health insurance in this country are covered by non-profit companies.
You go on and on about the benefits. Who do you THINK is going to be paying all the bills? You apparently believe it isn't going to be the businesses. Who's left, and how much will they be paying? For God's sake, do the frigging numbers. ONCE.
I don't get it. What is it in some people's brains that so fervently believes that a corporation, competing with many others, is the epitome of evil, but that somehow a single government monolith, run almost entirely by non-elected bureaucrats for their own gain just like corporations are, will be heaven on Earth?
