The numbers don't add up to an immigration crisis
German anti-immigrant voices are pointing to an influx of about a million asylum-seekers who entered Germany in 2015 as being the cause of particular problems.
Reports of the crowd of "Arabic or North African" men on New Year's Eve indicate a size of about 1000. If all of them came from those million asylum-seekers, and if *all of them* were involved in criminal activities that night, that puts one in every thousand asylum-seekers at fault. That's one tenth of one percent. Not exactly a damning number, even using very cynical estimates.
The events of that night really don't make a point about immigration policy. It's a matter for the police and the courts, not the politicians.
