I (in my naive layman-like manner) agree with you completely that oil magically renewing itself is wishful thinking.

About this drilling in Russia, though, certainly they aren't drilling below the theoretical limits of subduction, are they? Couldn't hydrocarbons be carried far below where any known microbes could survive, and then be found there?
